The effects of sound are more far-reaching than merely the electromagnetic nature it is known to have. Sound persists; it plays on in the human mind long after it is performed. Today, we believe we have the required technology to store and reproduce sound. Or do we?

When musical experience is restricted to simple and inadequate hi-fi equipment, the listener might develop a "comfort zone" in choice of music and believe few forms of music to be an acquired taste. Experience of a live performance will definitely change this perception and the listener will broaden the choice of music.

A live performance is the benchmark for any audio equipment. Imperfect or inadequate acoustic reproduction will easily make good music sound very mediocre. The more sophisticated the music, the more difficult it becomes to acoustically reproduce all its nuances. Our endeavour has been to reproduce sound in its purest form as in a live performance transcending erudition of the listener to complex musical forms such as Hindustani, Carnatic, Jazz , Western Classical, etc.,

Our initial product development cycle was biased by many of the conventional audiophile best practises - as depicted in the image above. This approach relied on an iterative listening experience (Voicing) and fine tuning of circuits to achieve desired sonic signature. Soon, we realized this approach cannot be used to develop products that can effectively convey the essence or the “wholesome experience” of a live performance. We decided to go back to basics and spent the next few years researching on Musical Acoustic Reproduction. This enabled us to gain a fresh perspective on acoustic reproduction metrics- Pure, Dynamic & Expressive.

Pure - To experience natural tonality and accurate reproduction of timbre, it is essential to control all forms of equipment-induced distortions (SNR/THD) and also ensure good levels of phase coherence and transient response. All our products are engineered to meet strict criteria that we have set for ourselves in this regard.

Dynamic -Dynamic range is probably the most important aspect of acoustic reproduction. Micro dynamics refers to subtle details. Macro dynamic is relatively a large variation like the impact of a musical crescendo (ƒƒƒƒ). Dynamics might not be evident when listening to a simple pop tune. However, its importance becomes very evident when reproducing emotionally intense or complex music such as Hindustani or Western Classical. All acoustic portrait products are engineered with the latest technologies and highest quality components to achieve an excellent dynamic range.

Expressive - This is more of a subjective topic; Apart from measurable parameters that are published as product specifications, there are other technical aspects that can have a profound impact on the sound. Circuit layout, impedance of sub-components, PSU efficiency, power, ground connections, etc., affect all aspects of acoustic reproduction. In particular we have observed that these aspects are critical to achieving a fluid, effortless, vivid and well-layered spatial presentation

Pure, Dynamics & Expressive is the primary design consideration for our products. To achieve these objectives, our engineering efforts had to be very scientific and mathematically precise and the manufacturing process required high quality and precision components. Once we are able to achieve these primary considerations, other audiophile aspects like sound-stage, tonal balance, timbre, etc., will automatically snap into place. Hence there is no need to "Voice" the product for a specific "House Sound".
